What do you imagine when you view yourself as a successful lash artist? Since everyone's image is different, you first need to determine what a successful lash artist means to you.
No matter what your goals are, here are some good starting points to becoming the most successful lash artist you can be.
1. Get Licensed
The first step is to legally perform lash extensions in your state. Most states require an esthetician or cosmetology license. We see all the time that delaying licensing will only be hurtful to you in the future. While you might save some money in the short-term, your career as a lash artist will remain stagnant.
Once you got your license and your legally allowed to perform lash services, you need to learn how to properly do lashes.
2. Get the Fundamentals Down
Make sure you are properly performing lash extensions. This is important, so we'll repeat it. Make sure you are properly performing lash extensions. Correct isolation and application of lash extensions is essential in preventing damage to your client's lashes. You might thinking... "why should I? I can start making money right now." There's a million negatives to improperly lashing clients, but we'll shorten it to the main 3:
- You ruin your reputation. At our salon, we see many clients with damaged lashes from their previous lash artist. Once we tell and show them the condition of their lashes, they are usually shocked. My guess is that they most likely will not go back to their original lash artist.
- You will lose money long-term. Look at this way. You damage their lashes. You don't have any more lashes to lash. You can't provide anymore fills. You lose money.
- You're hurting your clients. Incorrectly applied lash extensions hurt. They feel heavy and irritate your client's eyes.
Once you master your technical lash artist skills, it's time to get people to know about you and your lashing skills.
3. Build your Marketing Skills
You could be the best lash artist in the world, but if no one knows about your services, then you can't provide them. We recommend getting familiar with a visual based social media such as Instagram or TikTok to showcase your lash skills.
